About Augustines of Portobello
Part farm, part cafe, and part family home, Augustines of Portobello is run by Gus Hayden and Jana Reulecke. Gus and Jana moved from Wānaka to Portobello in 2022 to build a life and a new business on Fat Weka Farm, where Gus’s parents, Jeannie and Peter, had moved a decade earlier.
Having spent years working out of rented commercial kitchens, preparing and preserving the best of Central Otago’s produce, Gus finally had a permanent base for the Augustines brand, and so a new name was born: Augustines of Portobello.
Here, on the farm, Gus and Jana now grow much of the produce for the award-winning Augustines range, from thick, branching rhubarb and fresh blackcurrants to heritage apples. Working with the seasons and the ever-changing Dunedin weather, Augustines of Portobello presents an opportunity to get back to nature and indulge in fresh, farm-to-table food and locally-grown produce only 20 minutes from the Dunedin CBD.
